Oxford Charger Swim Team

{Swimming Chargers}
Boys: Runner-Up 2008
Girls: 2007 and 2008 State Champions
Girls: Runner-Up 2005 and 2006

Oxford Charger Swimming has grown each year since its inception ten years ago. Charger teams compete head to head in the North State and State Championships with larger 5A schools such as Tupelo and Madison Central. Swimming is a fall sport and student/athletes in grades 7 through 12 are encouraged to try out for the team during the first week of school.

In the last four years, the Lady Chargers have become the team to watch in Mississippi. In 2004, they made their first showing in the top 3, losing out on a second place finish by only 3 points. They came back strong the following year, finishing in the runner-up spot behind Tupelo. After another second place finish in ‘06, the Lady Chargers finally defeated 5-time champion Tupelo in 2007 to win their first state championship. Despite losing 5 swimmers from that championship team, the Lady Chargers successfully defended their title in 2008. The Lady Chargers are disciplined, devoted and determined to bring the state championship home again in 2009.

The Chargers have seen similar success in their short history. From their 27th place finish in ’04, the boys’ team has shown steady improvement, finishing 7th out of 46 teams in 2007. In ’08, the Chargers defeated 5A rival Madison Central to take second place at the state championship, taking everyone by surprise and showing they were a force to be reckoned with. In 2009, the Charger boys’ team will be looking to unseat reigning state champion Tupelo for the title.
